iBOMMA admin Immad Ravi grilled on crypto, servers in piracy probe

Hyderabad: Cybercrime officials on Thursday began interrogating iBOMMA operator Immad Ravi. He is the main accused in a high-profile Telugu film piracy case. This was after securing five-day custody from the Nampally court.

The Hyderabad Central Crime Station (CCS) team had sought Ravi’s custody to collect key digital evidence. He is currently lodged in Chanchalguda Jail. Ravi is believed to be the core figure behind the iBOMMA platform, which facilitated illegal movie distribution across Telugu-speaking regions.

During the first day of questioning, investigators examined Ravi’s bank transactions and income generated through the piracy network. They also focused on the website’s technical infrastructure, including the use of dynamic IP address changes to evade tracking.

Police further questioned Ravi on his use of mobile devices and cryptocurrency wallets. They tried to trace how money was routed, spent, and concealed. This was particularly through crypto channels and digital wallets linked to the operation.

Officials also probed how Ravi maintained backend control of the iBOMMA site. They asked about proxy servers and IP-masking methods used to hide activity from enforcement agencies. Investigators accessed multiple hard disks, some of which required password cracking. Ethical hackers assisted in unlocking and analysing the data under Ravi’s guidance.

Moreover, police questioned Ravi about home servers allegedly located in the Netherlands. These may have hosted or mirrored pirated content internationally. This offshore link is seen as critical in tracking the broader scope of the network.
