Hyderabad: With New Year’s Eve celebrations set to begin in a few hours, Hyderabad police have announced a series of traffic restrictions across the city. These measures, aimed at ensuring public safety and smooth traffic flow, will be in effect from 10 PM on December 31 until the morning of January 1.
Traffic Joint Commissioner (in-charge) Venkateshwarlu said in a statement that, except for Begumpet and Tolichowki flyovers, all other flyovers in the city will be closed to traffic based on necessity during the restricted hours. He advised private vehicles to avoid city roads during the night and use the Outer Ring Road (ORR) instead.
Drunk driving checks and flyover closures from 10 PM
Vehicular movement will also be restricted on Tank Bund and Necklace Road from 11 PM until 2 AM. Special focus will be maintained at high-traffic areas such as NTR Marg, major malls, and commercial zones.
Police will conduct checks at 217 key locations to enforce these restrictions. Drunk driving tests will begin at 8 PM and continue through the night. Authorities have warned of strict action against rash driving and violations of traffic rules.
The police urged residents to celebrate responsibly and avoid actions that could endanger public safety. Those under the influence of alcohol have been explicitly advised not to drive.
