Hyderabad: A case of suspected food poisoning has turned tragic in Hyderabad after a woman died following the consumption of biryani purchased from a local restaurant. The incident was reported in Rajendranagar, where police have now launched an investigation based on a complaint filed by the deceased’s sister.
According to police, Ramesh (48) and his wife Rajeshwari (38), residents of the Erraboda area, had consumed biryani brought home by Ramesh two days ago. He had picked up the meal from a restaurant in Balanagar while returning from work at a nearby factory. The couple ate the biryani for dinner and soon after, in the early hours of the next morning, both began suffering from severe vomiting and diarrhoea.
They sought treatment at a nearby clinic, but Rajeshwari’s condition worsened, and she passed away on Thursday. Her family carried out her final rites shortly thereafter. Ramesh, who is still recovering from illness, was shifted to a private hospital in Upperpally for further care.
On Friday morning, Rajeshwari’s elder sister filed a formal complaint at the Rajendranagar police station, alleging that food poisoning caused her sister’s death. Based on the complaint, police have registered a case and initiated an inquiry into the source of the food and the restaurant involved.
Authorities are expected to inspect the eatery and collect food samples as part of the investigation. Police said they will also examine medical records and speak with doctors to determine the exact cause of death.
