Third victim dies in Hyderabad electronics shop blast, probe confirms gas leak

Hyderabad: A third person has died from injuries sustained in the recent blast at Gomathi Electronics in Hyderabad’s Old City, with investigators reportedly confirming that the explosion was caused by a gas leak.

Mubashir, who had been receiving treatment since the incident, succumbed to his injuries on Saturday, intensifying the sense of mourning in the locality.

The explosion, which initially sparked confusion about its origin, occurred suddenly at the store. The police Clues Team launched a multi-angle investigation, ultimately determining that a gas cylinder leak led to the blast. The site assessment showed the explosion was so forceful that debris scattered up to 100 metres from the shop.

Blast impact killed three, destroyed entire store structure

The powerful blast killed the driver of a car parked in front of the shop instantly. The following day, the shop’s owner, Agarwal, died during treatment for critical injuries. With Mubashir’s death, the toll from the incident has now risen to three.

Forensic experts said the explosion triggered secondary blasts inside the shop. Refrigerators and air-conditioner compressors caught fire and exploded in succession, intensifying the blaze. Debris landed up to 50 metres away, and the shop was completely destroyed.

CCTV footage reportedly showed a police vehicle passing by the shop just seconds before the explosion. Experts say the officers narrowly escaped injuries, with the blast occurring the moment their vehicle reached the storefront. A few seconds earlier, and the outcome could have been worse for the personnel.
