Hyderabad and Cyberabad traffic police book 983 drunk drivers in weekend drives

Hyderabad: Traffic police from Hyderabad and Cyberabad commissionerates booked a combined total of 983 motorists during special weekend drives against drunk driving, conducted on November 28 and 29. The enforcement drives aimed to deter inebriated driving and enhance public road safety.

The Hyderabad Traffic Police booked 552 individuals for driving under the influence. Among them were 438 two-wheeler riders, 45 three-wheeler drivers, and 69 four-wheeler and other vehicle operators. Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) levels showed a wide range, including 127 cases between 30–50 mg/100 ml and 10 cases exceeding 300 mg/100 ml.

Officials stated that the zero-tolerance policy towards drunk driving would continue, and they appealed to commuters for cooperation.

Cyberabad sees 431 cases and warns of criminal prosecution under BNS

In a separate drive, Cyberabad Traffic Police apprehended 431 drunk drivers. These included 325 two-wheeler riders, 86 four-wheeler drivers, 16 three-wheeler drivers, and 4 heavy vehicle operators. BAC levels indicated that 378 had readings up to 200 mg/100 ml, while 11 were above 300 mg/100 ml.

Cyberabad Police reiterated that driving under the influence remains a serious offence. Any driver found responsible for a fatal accident while intoxicated will be booked under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, for culpable homicide not amounting to murder. This offence carries a maximum punishment of 10 years’ imprisonment and a fine.

Additionally, between November 24 and 29, Cyberabad courts disposed of 320 drunk driving cases. Of these, 264 resulted in fines, 35 in fines combined with social service, and 21 in fines with imprisonment.
