Hyderabad CP Sajjanar awareness push aims to curb cybercrime

Hyderabad: Hyderabad CP Sajjanar launched a new awareness drive at Charminar to curb rising cybercrime and urged citizens to stay alert. He addressed the media after opening the outreach programme, which will run every Saturday and Tuesday at the historic site.

Sajjanar said many residents were still falling for online fraud because they lacked basic awareness. He added that Hyderabad was losing nearly one crore rupees a day to cybercrime. Criminals, he noted, used OTP scams, fake investment offers and “digital arrest’’ to trap victims. He therefore advised people to avoid fear and disconnect calls from fraudsters without hesitation.

He warned that private photographs on social media could expose users to blackmail. Victims, he said, must call 1930 as soon as any fraud occurs. He also introduced a voluntary network called Cyber Simba and invited citizens to join the initiative to strengthen community vigilance.

Sajjanar said the drive would help officers reach more people and explain new fraud patterns. He stressed that awareness could reduce most scams. Moreover, he encouraged residents to report suspicious activity quickly, saying confidence remained the strongest defence against cybercriminals.
