Hyderabad: The Huzurnagar housing project is 95% complete and ready for inauguration in the first week of March, Telangana Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy announced on Thursday.
He said Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy would formally launch the project at Ramaswamy Gutta. The Minister conducted an extensive inspection along with Suryapet District Collector Tejas Nandalal Pawar and reviewed infrastructure, amenities and housing blocks.
Spread across 110 acres at a cost of Rs.125 crore, the Huzurnagar housing project will provide homes to 2,160 poor families. Uttam Kumar Reddy said the colony reflected the Congress government’s focus on food security and housing as twin welfare priorities. He added that no poor family in Telangana should remain without food or shelter.
The site, which earlier functioned as a garbage dumping yard, has now been transformed into a model township. Each 317 sq ft single-bedroom unit includes a kitchen and bathroom. In addition, the colony has CC roads, underground drainage, 24×7 water supply and full electrification. Green spaces, a school, a park and a community centre have also been developed.
Allotments begin under the Huzurnagar housing project
The Minister said the per-unit construction cost ranges between Rs.6 lakh and Rs.6.5 lakh, excluding land value. However, he noted that the present market rates significantly enhance the asset value for beneficiaries.
In the first phase, 1,000 families will receive allotment letters next week. Uttam Kumar Reddy stated that an official committee headed by the RDO would oversee beneficiary selection. He asserted that authorities would follow a strict merit-based process with zero tolerance for corruption or political interference.
He also highlighted parallel welfare measures. The government, he said, was distributing fine rice to ration card holders and issuing new ration cards without discrimination. Moreover, it was procuring paddy at MSP and accelerating housing construction across the State.
According to the Minister, nearly 5.5 lakh houses are under construction in Telangana. He described it as one of the largest housing drives in the State’s history. In Huzurnagar Assembly constituency alone, apart from the Huzurnagar housing project, 3,500 Indiramma houses have been sanctioned. The inauguration ceremony will conclude with a community meal for beneficiaries.
