Historic sixth World Cup triumph for India U-19

Hyderabad: India’s Under-19 men’s team scripted history by winning a record sixth ICC Under-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup, defeating England by 100 runs in the final held in Zimbabwe. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) hailed the victory as another proud chapter in Indian cricket.

With this win, India completed an unbeaten campaign in the tournament. As a result, it further strengthened its position as the most successful nation in Under-19 World Cup history. Moreover, the triumph gave India the rare distinction of holding both the men’s and women’s Under-19 World Cup titles simultaneously.

Led by Captain Ayush Mhatre, the team showed consistency and composure throughout the competition. In the final, teenager Vaibhav Sooryavanshi produced a match-defining innings. He smashed 175 off just 80 balls. Notably, it was the first 150-plus score in an Under-19 World Cup knockout match.

BCCI lauds coaching staff and youth development system

Meanwhile, the Board of Control for Cricket in India praised the squad’s discipline and depth. It also thanked head coach Hrishikesh Kanitkar and his support staff for their guidance. In addition, the board acknowledged VVS Laxman, Head of Cricket at the BCCI Centre of Excellence, for strengthening the age-group pathway. The Junior Cricket Committee also received credit for talent identification.

BCCI president Mithun Manhas said the sixth Under-19 World Cup title reflected India’s strength in youth cricket. He added that holding both Under-19 world titles highlighted the depth of the country’s cricketing structure.

Similarly, BCCI honorary secretary Devajit Saikia said the unbeaten run underlined the success of long-term player development. He pointed to strong domestic systems and quality coaching. Vice-President Rajeev Shukla said India’s age-group dominance resulted from sustained planning and sound administration.

Finally, the BCCI said it would continue investing in grassroots and age-group cricket. It also placed on record its appreciation for all players, coaches, and administrators involved in the campaign.
