Hyderabad: The Commissioner’s Task Force, West Zone, in coordination with Borabanda police, arrested a hash oil peddler on Thursday and seized 200 ml of the narcotic substance from his possession.
Police identified the accused as Pottabatthini Uma Shankar (26), a weaver from Pochampalli, Ranga Reddy district. Acting on credible information, the Task Force conducted a special operation in Borabanda and apprehended him while he was in possession of the contraband.
During the search, officials recovered 40 small boxes of hash oil, each containing 5 ml, with a total value estimated at ₹1.2 lakh. Police also seized one mobile phone from him, taking the total value of property seized to ₹1.3 lakh.
Hash oil sourced from Araku Valley supplier
During interrogation, Uma Shankar confessed to procuring the hash oil from an unidentified supplier in Araku Valley, Andhra Pradesh. He admitted he had been carrying the substance with the intention to sell it to local customers for profit.
Police registered a case at Borabanda police station and said the investigation was ongoing to identify the wider supply network.
Hyderabad police appealed to youth and students not to fall prey to drugs and urged parents to monitor their children’s activities. Authorities reiterated their commitment to making Hyderabad a drug-free city.
