Harish Rao slams government for ignoring welfare schemes and pushing power project deals

Hyderabad: Former minister and BRS MLA Harish Rao accused the state government of ignoring welfare schemes while encouraging project-related deals. He said the Cabinet focused on commissions instead of public issues.

Harish Rao questions power project costs and Cabinet priorities

Harish Rao said the recent Cabinet meeting revived the electricity scam. He accused the Congress government of enabling large-scale corruption. The Ramagundam project alone carried a commission plan of nearly ₹6,000 crore, he said. According to him, ministers met only to push commission-linked proposals.

He played a video of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s remarks on the NTPC agreement. In that clip, the CM said the 800 MW Ramagundam project could cost ₹10,880 crore. Harish Rao said the cost might reach ₹15,000 crore and push unit cost to ₹10. He questioned the CM for approving an expensive unit while promising cheaper power.

Harish Rao said the CM opposed thermal plants as a legislator. However, he approved new plants after becoming Chief Minister. He said the CM reacted aggressively whenever people raised questions.

He noted that the CM planned three 800 MW plants at Palvancha, Ramagundam and Matkal. These projects would cost around ₹50,000 crore. Even with ₹40,000 crore in loans, the government must raise ₹10,000 crore. Harish Rao asked how the CM would find that amount.

He said the CM complained about fee reimbursement, scholarships and DA dues. Yet he planned huge investments in thermal plants. Harish Rao added that the Centre treated him with disregard during loan visits.

He said NTPC produced 2,400 MW and offered to supply power at a lower rate. NTPC wrote three letters to the government. The company also approached the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister. He said the previous BRS government purchased 1,600 MW and NTPC offered the remaining 2,400 MW. He accused the new government of ignoring that offer.
