Hyderabad: In a significant legal relief, the Telangana High Court on Tuesday dismissed an election petition filed against senior BRS leader and former minister T. Harish Rao, ending a months-long legal challenge to his 2023 Assembly victory from Siddipet.
The petition, filed by BSP candidate Chakradhar Goud, alleged that Harish Rao failed to disclose complete information in his election affidavit, including certain personal details about his son. The court, after reviewing the case, found no substantial basis to move forward and threw out the petition.
This came in the wake of a heated three-way battle during the 2023 Siddipet election, where BRS’s Harish Rao went up against Congress candidate Harikrishna and BSP’s Chakradhar Goud. The latter had accused Harish Rao of hiding key details and claimed his affidavit lacked transparency. With the High Court rejecting these arguments, the case now stands closed in favour of the sitting MLA.
Responding to the court’s decision, Harish Rao said the verdict reaffirmed his faith in the judicial system. He urged the ruling Congress party and Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to abandon what he described as “vendetta politics” and focus instead on delivering the promises made to the public.
“I have nothing to fear from false cases. We will continue to expose Congress’s betrayals in the public sphere and stand by the people,” Harish Rao said, warning that the Opposition will remain vigilant and unrelenting in its criticism.
