Harish Rao blames Congress, sand mafia for check dam blast in Jammikunta

Hyderabad: Former Minister T. Harish Rao on Tuesday alleged that a ₹24 crore check dam on the Maneru stream in Tanugula village, Jammikunta mandal, was deliberately destroyed. He claimed that elements linked to the sand mafia acted with the support of local Congress leaders.

Addressing the media, Harish Rao claimed the destroyed dam was vital for farmers and fishermen in both Jammikunta and Odela mandals. Moreover, he accused Congress MLAs of acting as part of the sand mafia. They allegedly enabled illegal mining by weakening water infrastructure across Telangana.

Check dam blast in Jammikunta linked to political, mining nexus: Harish Rao

The former irrigation minister cited earlier incidents of attempted damage to check dams on the Hussain Miya and Swarna streams in Nirmal district. He alleged that local police have failed to register FIRs in such cases due to political interference.

Harish Rao warned that the Jammikunta dam blast may be part of a broader conspiracy. Therefore, he demanded swift identification and prosecution of the culprits. He also called for faillisting Raghava Constructions if any quality lapses were cited in the dam’s structural failure.

He reminded that the BRS government had previously constructed 1,200 check dams. Additionally, they rejuvenated 44,000 tanks across the state. Rao said the party would raise the issue in the upcoming Assembly session, pressing for accountability and restoration of irrigation infrastructure.
