Hyderabad: Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Varma unveiled a portrait of former Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao at Raj Bhavan on the eve of the late leader’s birth anniversary.
The Governor paid floral tributes before the portrait and described Rao’s role in shaping India’s economic and foreign policy trajectory as pivotal. He credited the former Prime Minister with introducing key liberalisation measures and reforming the education system. Rao, he said, brought an intellectual depth and firm administrative grip to national governance.
Governor Varma referred to Rao as a “statesman-scholar” and said his contributions continued to influence India’s development trajectory.

The Governor also announced that a portrait of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee would be installed at Raj Bhavan on July 26, to coincide with Kargil Vijay Diwas. A commemorative event to honour Kargil War veterans will also be held the same day.
With Rao’s portrait now added, the Raj Bhavan portrait collection includes Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, and Mir Osman Ali Khan, the last Nizam of Hyderabad.
The ceremony was attended by Principal Secretary to the Governor M. Dana Kishore, IAS, senior officials, and Raj Bhavan staff.
