Hyderabad: Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Varma on Saturday felicitated distinguished doctors at the Medical Excellence Awards–2025, held by the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), Hyderabad District Branch, at Samskruthi, Raj Bhavan Community Hall, to mark National Doctor’s Day.
Addressing the gathering, the Governor paid homage to Bharat Ratna Dr. B.C. Roy and praised the tradition of ethical and compassionate medicine he embodied. He noted that the true reward for doctors lies in their selfless service to society, beyond the awards conferred on them.
Highlighting India’s advances in healthcare and wellness, the Governor called on the medical fraternity to volunteer their skills for the benefit of the underprivileged. “Let us move from commerce to compassion in the field of medicine,” he urged.
The Governor commended the Indian Red Cross Society’s broad health initiatives, including mobile clinics, blood donation drives, CPR training, elder care, and services for persons with disabilities. He noted with appreciation the launch of a new Blood Centre at Masab Tank and plans for generic medicine outlets and senior citizen wellness projects.
Appealing for greater voluntary participation, the Governor asked doctors to dedicate at least one day a week to public service and join in national drives like the TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan.
The event was attended by Hyderabad District Collector Harichandana Dasari, senior Raj Bhavan officials, IRCS office-bearers, eminent doctors, and their families.
