Hyderabad: District in-charge Minister Ponnam Prabhakar on Wednesday said the Telangana government will announce a clear decision regarding the GHMC reorganisation of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) by February 10.
He clarified that there was no ambiguity on the planned division of the corporation, as the GHMC reorganisation has been under active consideration. He added that the term of the GHMC governing body ends on the same date. The Minister made the remarks during a review with senior officials at the GHMC headquarters. The review was attended by the Mayor, Deputy Mayor, and GHMC Commissioner. Additionally, the GHMC reorganisation is expected to shape the upcoming administration.
GHMC officials asked to take charge of local service delivery
Ponnam held separate meetings with zonal commissioners and circle officers. This followed the division of the Hyderabad metropolitan area into 12 zones, 60 circles, and 300 divisions. Therefore, changes resulting from the GHMC reorganisation will have a direct impact on public service delivery. He said the onus of addressing public grievances now lies squarely on the shoulders of local officials.
He instructed officers to be prepared to answer growing public questions related to basic services such as sanitation, power supply, and drinking water. The Minister further added that ensuring efficient zonal-level administration would be the Commissioner’s responsibility going forward.
