Hyderabad: Greater Hyderabad secured sixth place nationwide in the Swachh Survekshan 2024 rankings, its best performance to date among over 4,500 cities assessed for sanitation and urban cleanliness.
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) received the State Level Award for the most promising clean city in Telangana. Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal presented the award to GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan during the national awards ceremony held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, on Thursday.
As part of the 2024 survey, GHMC applied for a ‘7 Star’ rating under the Garbage-Free Cities Certification and sought water recertification in the Open Defecation Free (ODF) category.
According to the GHMC’s official City Report Card, the corporation achieved 100 per cent performance in door-to-door waste collection, waste generation tracking, remediation of legacy dump sites, and cleanliness across residential, commercial, and public spaces, including markets, toilets, and water bodies.
The only shortfall noted was in source segregation, where GHMC posted a 93 per cent score.
