GHMC begins rapid development works in Tarnaka under Basti Baata

Hyderabad: GHMC Deputy Mayor Mothe Srilekha Shobhan Reddy on Wednesday launched civic works under the Basti Baata programme in Tarnaka Division. Using sanctioned GHMC funds, the initiative covered Manikeshwari Nagar, Ravindra Nagar, and Parthivada.

She was joined by TTIUC State President Mothe Shobhan Reddy. Officials from the GHMC, Water Board, Electricity, Revenue, Health, Environment, and Urban Development departments also participated. Several local public representatives were present.

Officials respond to civic complaints

During the visit, officials spoke directly with residents in each colony. They documented complaints about poor roads, blocked drains, non-working streetlights, and erratic garbage collection. Residents also flagged issues such as interrupted water supply, unclean school areas, and the need for community hall repairs. Some also raised concerns about graveyard upkeep and Basti Dawakhana services.

The Deputy Mayor issued on-the-spot instructions. She asked concerned departments to act quickly. “The Congress government aims to meet people directly and fix issues without delay,” she said.

Funds directed toward urgent works

Srilekha said GHMC had approved ₹2 crore for civic works in multiple divisions. She made it clear that these funds would be spent based on need and full transparency. Departments were told to focus on narrow roads, stormwater drains, street lighting, and monsoon-related blockages. Park improvements, play zones for children, and safe spaces for women also topped the priority list.

Praise for CM and coordination efforts

She praised Chief Minister Revanth Reddy for guiding GHMC reforms and speeding up urban works. She also appreciated Minister Ponnam Prabhakar’s efforts to coordinate across departments.

Srilekha added that the Basti Baata model had received wide support. “People welcome this hands-on governance. They are happy to share their concerns directly,” she said. Several residents said they believed long-pending issues would now be addressed faster.

Officials said work would begin soon in all three areas. The Deputy Mayor said the goal was to work closely with the public and resolve each issue through joint efforts.
