Gadwal food poisoning prompts strong criticism from Kalvakuntla Kavitha

Hyderabad: Telangana Jagruthi chief and former MP Kalvakuntla Kavitha criticised the state government after the Gadwal food poisoning incident. She said frequent poisoning cases in gurukul and welfare hostels created deep worry across Telangana. She added that student suicides also caused pain, and she argued that the government still failed to act with urgency.

Twelve students in the ST Welfare Hostel in Gadwal fell ill after eating spoiled food, according to her. Kavitha said the Gadwal food poisoning case showed what she called the Congress government’s failure. She argued that the incident proved that officials ignored the needs of poor children. Public trust, she noted, continued to weaken because of these repeated lapses.

Earlier cases had already shaken many parents, and new warnings appeared in several districts. Despite this, the government did not take firm steps, she said. As a result, fear grew among families who relied on hostels for safe food and shelter. Kavitha urged the authorities to tighten checks on kitchens, storage rooms, and food supply points.

She pointed out that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy held the education department. Repeated incidents in his own region raised serious questions about responsibility, she added. The government, she said, must improve inspections and introduce strong safety controls. Each new case, she argued, increased public anger and demanded quick corrective action.
