Free sand distribution announced for Indiramma Housing beneficiaries: Ponguleti
Hyderabad: Telangana’s Revenue, Housing and Information Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy on Wednesday announced that beneficiaries of the Indiramma Housing Scheme will receive sand free of cost for building their homes. The responsibility of distributing free sand coupons has been entrusted to district collectors to ensure timely access for the beneficiaries.
Ponguleti, alongside Minister Seethakka, distributed approval documents to Indiramma Housing beneficiaries at Incherla village in Mulugu district. He revealed that 3,500 houses have already been sanctioned for the Mulugu constituency, with an additional 1,500 houses approved under the Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA) limits.
Responding to a request from Minister Seethakka, Ponguleti sanctioned a further 1,000 houses, encouraging beneficiaries to begin construction within the next 10–15 days, after which funds would be released every Monday.
He also assured that forest officials would permit residents living in makeshift shelters within forest areas to build permanent Indiramma houses at their current locations. Citing Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s commitment, Ponguleti announced that 10,000 houses had been approved for the Chenchu tribal community.
Taking a swipe at the previous BRS government, he criticised their record of approving 92,000 houses and completing only 60,000, leaving over 30,000 incomplete with just walls standing. He also accused the previous administration of failing to pay contractors for their work.
Ponguleti estimated that at least 60 eligible families in every village should receive Indiramma houses, although currently, only about 25 houses per village have been sanctioned. He promised that all deserving families would be accommodated in future housing initiatives.
The minister revealed that the Congress government aims to build 20 lakh houses across the state over the next four years, allocating ₹22,500 crore for the ambitious project. He urged people to acknowledge the welfare schemes implemented by the Congress and support the party in the upcoming local body elections.
