Hyderabad: A food delivery worker was rescued after falling into an open drain during Saturday night’s heavy rain in Hyderabad. The incident occurred near TKR Kaman in LB Nagar and was caught on video, which later went viral on social media.
The rider, identified as Syed Farhan of Santosh Nagar, works with Zomato and has been in the job for six years. He said he was on his way to deliver an order when rainwater swept him into the uncovered drain. His phone was lost in the water, and his new bike was damaged. Locals pulled him to safety and later used a rope to retrieve the bike.
Hyderabad open drain accident sparks GHMC criticism
Social media users criticised the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and Hyderabad authorities for negligence, pointing out that there were no warning signs near the drain. Farhan said he was still paying instalments on the bike and appealed to the government for assistance.
Residents said such incidents highlight the need for proper barricading and safety boards near open drains, especially during the monsoon. The incident has renewed calls for immediate civic action to prevent similar accidents.
