Father, son stage rival hunger strikes over house dispute in Nalgonda village

Hyderabad: A family feud over property has escalated into duelling hunger strikes in Singaram village, Munugode mandal, Nalgonda district, with both father and son staging protests over ownership of a house gifted to the daughter.

Kodi Chandrayya, a resident of Singaram, had transferred his residential property to his daughter Alivelu via a gift deed during her wedding, citing a 2015 written agreement where his son Ramulu pledged not to claim the house in exchange for supporting the marriage. With no funds at the time, Chandrayya said he used the house under the Pasupu Kumkuma scheme for the registration.

However, Ramulu later moved his parents out and began cultivating the family farmland. Facing hardship, Chandrayya and his wife sought redress from the Choutuppal RDO, who recently issued an order allotting 14 guntas to Ramulu and retaining the house and the remaining 13 guntas for Chandrayya.

Despite the directive, Ramulu refused to vacate the house or allow his parents access to the farmland, prompting Chandrayya to launch a hunger strike in front of the tehsildar’s office on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Ramulu, already on hunger strike since Friday outside the village panchayat office, accused his father of trying to evict his family after 28 years of cohabitation.
