HYDERABAD: A man in Nalgonda district died after consuming pesticide, reportedly upset over his daughter’s inter-caste marriage. The incident occurred in Chityala town, sparking protests by the bereaved family who blamed police inaction for the tragedy.
The deceased, identified as Remudala Gattayya (49) of Chityala, had been distressed since his daughter eloped last month with a youth from a different caste within the same village. Following her disappearance, Gattayya filed a missing persons complaint at the local police station.
It was later discovered that the couple had married. The news reportedly caused Gattayya severe emotional distress. On April 10, he consumed pesticides at his residence. He was immediately shifted to a private hospital in Hyderabad for treatment.
Despite medical efforts, Gattayya’s condition deteriorated, and he succumbed on Saturday.
Following his death, Gattayya’s relatives and family members staged a protest outside the Chityala police station, alleging that negligence by the police had led to his demise. They demanded accountability and action from authorities over their handling of the case.
