Hyderabad: Cyber fraud continued to rise despite sustained awareness campaigns, with fraudsters hacking the Facebook account of Congress MLA Nagaraju from the Wardhannapet Assembly constituency in Telangana.
Cyber criminals hacked the MLA’s social media account and sent messages to acquaintances, supporters and relatives, seeking money in his name. The incident highlighted how cyber fraudsters continued to exploit trust and personal connections.
Police sources said cyber crime cases remained a daily concern in Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Rachakonda commissionerates, with at least 10 complaints registered every day. Victims included older citizens, women and the illiterate, while police personnel and public representatives also fell prey to such crimes.
After learning about the hack, Nagaraju acted swiftly and alerted the public. He released a video message urging people not to respond to any messages sent from his Facebook account.

The MLA later lodged a formal complaint with the cyber crime police, seeking action against those responsible for the fraud. Police began efforts to trace the source of the hacking and prevent further misuse of the account.
Officials reiterated that cyber fraudsters often relied on greed, urgency and familiarity to deceive victims. They advised citizens to verify requests for money and report suspicious online activity without delay.
