Hyderabad: Telangana BJP president N. Ramchander Rao on Friday called on people to turn the Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam initiative into a mass movement by planting a sapling in the name of their mothers.
Speaking to the media after attending a party training programme in Mahabubabad, Rao said the campaign launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi had already achieved significant success across the country.
He said more than 260 crore saplings had been planted since the launch of the Ek Ped initiative in 2024. According to Rao, the campaign marked a major step towards increasing India’s green cover and strengthening environmental protection efforts.

Rao urged people across Telangana to actively participate in the programme. He appealed to every family to plant at least one sapling and contribute to environmental conservation.
He said widespread participation would help preserve ecological balance and create a healthier environment for future generations. Moreover, he stressed that protecting nature remained a collective responsibility.
Calling for a greener Telangana, Rao said citizens should support efforts aimed at improving environmental sustainability. He added that community involvement was essential for the long-term success of such initiatives.
The BJP leader said environmental protection and ecological balance were crucial for future generations. Therefore, he urged people to take part in plantation drives and support green initiatives.
“It is the responsibility of all of us to provide a clean and healthy environment for future generations by protecting nature and preserving ecological balance,” Rao said.
He reiterated that the Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam campaign offered an opportunity for families to honour their mothers while contributing to environmental conservation. He expressed hope that more people in Telangana would join the initiative and help expand the State’s green cover.
