Hyderabad: The NagarKurnool police conducted a cordon and search operation early Thursday morning in Velugonda village under Bijinepally mandal. The operation was led by DSP Buridi Srinivas, CI Ashok Reddy and SI Srinivas.
Speaking during the operation, DSP Srinivas said that rising gold prices have triggered a spurt in thefts. Therefore, the department has launched a community mobilisation drive to raise public awareness and prevent such crimes.
NagarKurnool cordon search focuses on theft prevention and safety awareness
The DSP urged homeowners to improve household security. He advised against using cheap locks and encouraged residents to install advanced central lock alarm systems. These, he said, can alert owners immediately if unknown persons attempt to break in while they are away.
He also warned people to stay alert to online frauds. Cybercriminals, he explained, often trick people with fake calls claiming a lottery win or bank refund. Once victims share their OTP, the criminals empty their bank accounts. Moreover, he appealed to citizens not to fall for such scams.
The DSP further cautioned youth against drug addiction, saying it leads to thefts and anti-social behaviour. Parents, he added, must keep a close watch on their children.
Police stress CCTV use and public vigilance in villages
CI Ashok Reddy advised villagers to immediately report any suspicious persons entering villages on two-wheelers, especially those wearing helmets. “If you call 100 or inform the local SI, we will respond immediately,” he said.
He also suggested installing CCTV cameras in houses and streets to help identify criminals easily. According to him, surveillance cameras act as both a deterrent and a protective shield for families.
SI Srinivas thanked the villagers who volunteered to support the installation of CCTV systems. Earlier, constable Narasimhulu used a song to spread awareness about the dangers of drug use among youth.
During the operation, police checked 46 motorcycles, three auto-rickshaws, a Tata Ace, and two Bolero vehicles. They announced that vehicles with proper documents would be returned, while others would face legal action.
The operation involved four SIs and about 60 police personnel.
