Hyderabad: Telangana Director General of Police Shivadhar Reddy issued strict warnings during municipal election counting, stating that police will take legal action against anyone misbehaving with officials on duty.
Polling for 116 municipalities and seven corporations took place on the 11th of this month. Counting began at 8 am on Friday across the State.
The DGP cautioned that no one will escape action if they obstruct officials or attack personnel engaged in counting duties. He made it clear that police will not tolerate interference in lawful discharge of duty.
DGP steps up security during municipal election counting
He reminded political representatives, candidates and party workers that everyone stands equal before the law. Therefore, police will proceed legally against anyone violating election norms.
The DGP said police have deployed strong bandobast at counting centres. Security forces are monitoring sensitive areas to prevent tension or unrest.
He further stated that authorities will suppress attempts to disturb law and order. At the same time, he urged all stakeholders to cooperate and follow the election code and police instructions.
If anyone has complaints about staff behaviour, they should use legal channels, he advised. Citizens may submit written complaints to the State Election Commission (SEC) or senior departmental officials.
The DGP reiterated that police will register cases under stringent sections against those who violate the rules during municipal election counting.
