Hyderabad: BRS MLC Dr. Dasoju Sravan strongly criticised the Telangana government over basti evictions. He accused the administration of demolishing houses of poor residents without legal procedures.
The BRS MLC alleged that the government, led by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, was behaving like a “bulldozer regime” while dealing with basti residents along the Musi river.
Dasoju Sravan made the remarks during a round-table meeting titled “Basti struggle on the Banks of Musi.” The meeting took place at the Somajiguda Press Club on Sunday.
Gosula Srinivas of the Telangana Basti Joint Action Committee organised the discussion.
Speaking at the meeting, the BRS leader said the ongoing basti evictions violated democratic principles. He alleged that authorities demolished houses of basti residents without legal procedures.
According to him, such actions showed disregard for the rights and livelihoods of the poor.
Dasoju Sravan criticises basti evictions along Musi
Dasoju Sravan demanded that the government listen to the grievances of basti residents and address their concerns.
He used a sharp remark against the government, saying “Andukora Guttupanduko… to drive away these thieves,” while accusing the administration of ignoring people’s suffering.
The BRS leader also criticised what he described as the government’s indifferent attitude toward affected families.
He compared the government’s response to “rain falling on a buffalo’s back.” According to him, authorities showed no concern for people’s pain.
Basti evictions raise political criticism
Dasoju Sravan further alleged that the ruling party won elections with support from basti residents. However, it failed to address their problems later.
He said the government must reconsider its approach toward basti evictions and ensure justice for residents along the Musi river.
According to him, authorities should hold talks with residents and follow legal procedures before taking action against houses in the bastis.
