Hyderabad: The Cyberabad Police busted an interstate child trafficking racket involving the illegal sale of infants brought from Gujarat and sold in parts of Hyderabad and Mancherial for large sums.
Police said special teams under the Cyberabad Commissionerate tracked the operation by establishing contacts with agents based in Gujarat. Acting on specific inputs, the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) conducted a special operation and caught the accused red-handed.
The accused allegedly transported infants illegally from Gujarat and sold them to buyers in Telangana. Police arrested the gang members and rescued the infants during the operation.
The rescued children were shifted to safe care centres, police said. Officials registered a case and launched a detailed investigation into the trafficking network.
Child trafficking racket under wider investigation
Police said the racket appeared to have wider interstate links. Accordingly, Cyberabad police coordinated with Gujarat police to trace additional suspects and possible buyers involved in the network.
Officials urged the public to report any suspicious activity related to child trafficking. Police requested citizens to immediately dial 100 or contact the 1098 Child Helpline if they notice such incidents.
