Cyberabad police book 300 drunk driving cases in weekend drive

Hyderabad: Cyberabad Traffic Police booked 300 motorists during a special Cyberabad drunk driving enforcement drive conducted over the weekend and warned that motorists involved in fatal crashes while driving under the influence of alcohol would face stringent legal action.

Police said the offenders included 259 two-wheeler riders, six three-wheeler drivers, 34 four-wheeler drivers and one heavy vehicle driver. All those booked will be produced before the court.

According to the police, 245 offenders recorded Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) levels between 36 mg/100 ml and 200 mg/100 ml. Another 30 offenders had BAC levels ranging from 201 mg/100 ml to 300 mg/100 ml, while 25 offenders registered BAC levels between 301 mg/100 ml and 550 mg/100 ml.

Cyberabad Police reiterated that driving under the influence of alcohol is a serious offence and urged motorists to avoid drunk driving to protect lives and ensure road safety.

Cyberabad drunk driving offenders face legal action

Police warned that any person found driving in an intoxicated condition and causing a fatal accident would be booked under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, which deals with culpable homicide not amounting to murder.

Officials said the offence carries a maximum punishment of 10 years’ imprisonment along with a fine, depending on the circumstances of the case.

The department also released details of court disposals from the previous week. Between June 22 and June 27, courts disposed of 251 drunk driving cases, and all 251 offenders were fined.

Cyberabad Traffic Police said enforcement drives against drunk driving would continue to improve road safety and discourage motorists from driving under the influence of alcohol.
