Cyberabad drunk driving crackdown nets 279 offenders in weekend drive

Hyderabad: Cyberabad Traffic Police booked 279 offenders during a special weekend Cyberabad drunk driving enforcement drive and announced that all those caught would be produced before the court. The operation was conducted as part of intensified measures to curb drunken driving and improve road safety across the commissionerate.

According to police data, two-wheeler riders accounted for the highest number of violations, with 228 cases registered. Authorities also booked eight three-wheeler drivers and 43 four-wheeler drivers. No heavy vehicle driver was found violating drunk driving rules during the enforcement campaign.

Police said 230 offenders recorded Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) levels between 36 mg/100 ml and 200 mg/100 ml. Another 33 offenders registered BAC levels between 201 mg/100 ml and 300 mg/100 ml, while 16 offenders had BAC levels ranging from 301 mg/100 ml to 550 mg/100 ml.

Cyberabad drunk driving cases face court action

Cyberabad Police reiterated that driving under the influence of alcohol remains a serious offence. Officials warned that any person who causes a fatal accident while driving in an intoxicated condition would face charges under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, which deals with culpable homicide not amounting to murder.

Police said the offence carries a maximum punishment of 10 years’ imprisonment along with a fine. Therefore, authorities urged motorists to avoid driving after consuming alcohol and to follow road safety regulations.

Meanwhile, court records showed that 622 drunk driving cases were disposed of between 15.06.2026 and 20.06.2026. Of these, one offender received a punishment of fine along with social service, while 621 offenders were awarded fines. No offender received a sentence of fine and jail during the period.
