CP Sajjanar warns of strict action against lucky draw influencer scams

Hyderabad: City Police Commissioner V. C. Sajjanar warned that police would take strict legal action against social media influencers involved in lucky draw scams.

In a post on X, Sajjanar said police noticed several influencers promoting lucky draws. They promised cars, bikes, plots and expensive gadgets. However, he said these claims were fraudulent in reality. He cautioned the public to stay alert and avoid such misleading schemes. He added that influencers adopted lucky draws after the crackdown on betting app promotions.

Sajjanar said these influencers exploited the hopes of innocent people. He said they cheated the public for financial gain. Therefore, he warned that popularity or celebrity status would not protect anyone.

Police to book cases under Prize Chits Act, says Sajjanar

Sajjanar said police would register cases under the Prize Chits and Money Circulation Schemes (Banning) Act, 1978 against those running illegal lucky draw schemes. He made it clear that the law applied to everyone, including celebrities and social media stars.

He further warned that misuse of online influence would invite severe consequences. Sajjanar said police would not show leniency to anyone involved in lucky draw scams.

The police commissioner urged citizens to verify offers before participating. He also asked people to report suspicious activities. He said enforcement would continue to curb online fraud and protect the public.
