Hyderabad: A man and a woman, reportedly related by marriage and facing family pressure over allegations of an extramarital relationship, died by suicide at a resort in Bhongir on Sunday evening.
According to Bibi Nagar SI Ramesh, the deceased were identified as Bandhabala Sudhakar (39) of KCR Nagar and Pasala Sushmita (35) of Gandhi Nagar, both in Ramantapur, Medchal–Malkajgiri district. The two, who had previously married other partners, were reportedly close relatives. Despite being in separate marriages, they had maintained close contact in recent times.
Their relationship allegedly drew objections from family members, triggering disputes between the two households. Sushmita’s husband had recently filed a police complaint against her at Ketepally police station in Nalgonda district. Police said the couple was under severe mental stress following the complaint.
Two days before the incident, Sudhakar and Sushmita had checked into a room at Ragala Resorts, located in Kondamadugu on the outskirts of Bibi Nagar mandal. On Sunday afternoon, Sudhakar reportedly video-called his brother-in-law Ranjith, informing him that they intended to end their lives but without disclosing their location.
Ranjith alerted Uppal police, who coordinated with Bibi Nagar police to trace their mobile signal. Officers located the resort and forcibly opened the room. Both were found dead. Resort staff had reportedly tried knocking multiple times but received no response.
Preliminary findings suggest the two consumed pesticide. Police recovered a selfie video reportedly recorded before the act and sent to relatives.
The bodies were sent to Bhongir Area Hospital for postmortem. Sudhakar and Sushmita were identified as natives of Ketepally in Nalgonda district. Police have registered a case and are investigating whether any additional circumstances contributed to the suicide.
