Hyderabad: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president and MLC Mahesh Kumar Goud on Sunday said the second phase of panchayat election results signalled a clear shift in rural politics. Congress-backed candidates had won a majority of sarpanch seats across the state.
He called the outcome a strong endorsement of the Congress government’s performance. According to him, the results reflected rural voters’ growing trust in Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s governance and welfare schemes. These programmes, implemented over the past two years, had directly reached the grassroots.
Mahesh Goud explained that the Congress treated these panchayat polls with utmost importance. The party coordinated efforts across leadership levels, from ministers to local workers. “We united MPs, MLAs, and grassroots leaders under one campaign. That village-level strategy made a major impact,” he said.
Mahesh Goud credits local outreach and welfare for Congress gains
Mahesh Goud noted that timely responses to local issues helped build strong voter support. He said the Congress model combined welfare, development, and social justice, which resonated with rural communities. Moreover, Revanth Reddy and his ministers had personally visited villages to understand and resolve problems.
He said the party’s slogan – “welfare, social justice, and development” – had connected well with the public. The results showed visible backing from marginalised groups such as Dalits, minorities, tribals, women, youth, and farmers.
“The panchayat results are proof that rural voters now prioritise performance over party loyalty,” Mahesh Goud added. In his view, this change marked the rise of a new political culture centred on rural development.
He also said the win increased the Congress government’s responsibility. “We must now accelerate rural growth and strengthen the panchayat raj system,” he stated. Every village, he said, would become a hub of development.
Mahesh Goud concluded that both phases of the sarpanch elections had validated the government’s people-first approach. He said the results would guide the Congress party’s deepening connection with rural Telangana.
