Hyderabad: Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy said the Congress sweep in municipal polls reflected strong public support for welfare schemes and improved organisational strength.
He described the results as a development-driven momentum across urban local bodies. Congratulating party workers and leaders, Uttam Kumar Reddy said the mandate showed confidence in the government’s governance. He added that the party was more organised in election management than before. According to him, united efforts by leaders and cadres ensured a decisive outcome.
The Minister attributed the Congress sweep in municipal polls primarily to welfare initiatives. He highlighted free distribution of fine rice, free bus travel for women, and Indiramma housing. In addition, he cited timely water release for agriculture, bumper harvests, and record paddy procurement. He said these measures expanded outreach among urban voters and strengthened the party’s base.
Calling the verdict a sustained endorsement, he stated that people had rewarded the government’s development agenda. He added that the outcome reaffirmed growing trust in the administration since it assumed office in late 2023.
Congress sweep in municipal polls seen as mid-term endorsement
Uttam Kumar Reddy termed the results a strong mid-term appraisal of governance. He said the party secured dominant leads in most municipalities, except in a few pockets of North Telangana.
In Suryapet district, Congress registered key victories. In Huzurnagar Municipality, the party won 19 of 28 wards. BRS secured four wards, while others won five. In Nereducherla, Congress bagged nine wards against BRS’s five and one for others.
Kodad Municipality saw Congress win 26 of 35 wards, leaving BRS with three. In Suryapet Municipality, Congress secured 31 of 48 wards. BRS won 11, BJP secured one, and others claimed five wards.
The Minister said the Congress sweep in municipal polls underscored the electorate’s approval of welfare-driven governance and development priorities in urban Telangana.
