Hyderabad: The Hyderabad District Congress Committee recorded a surge in applications for party posts, DCC president Syed Khalid Saifullah said on Saturday.
According to Khalid, party workers submitted a large number of online applications before the January 4 deadline. He said the response reflected growing public confidence in the Congress party under Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy.
Following the strong response, Khalid said the Hyderabad DCC had begun preparations for the upcoming Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation elections. As part of this process, the party will soon convene a strategy meeting. The meeting will focus on ward-level planning across all 44 divisions under the DCC’s jurisdiction.
Hyderabad DCC cites welfare impact in Old City
Khalid said Congress’s welfare schemes have started showing visible results, especially in the Old City. According to him, more than 70 per cent of residents there were directly benefiting from key programmes.
Among the major initiatives, he listed free bus travel for women, distribution of new ration cards and free fine rice. He added that people were witnessing clear changes after years of neglect.
Meanwhile, Khalid said progress on the Old City Metro Rail project had strengthened public confidence. He said the project reflected the government’s commitment to inclusive urban development.
The Hyderabad DCC president said the party’s focus extended beyond elections. According to him, Congress aimed to ensure sustained development in neglected areas. He said the Old City had finally begun to see steady progress.
Expressing confidence, Khalid said the welfare and infrastructure push would translate into electoral gains in the GHMC polls. He also confirmed that the DCC would announce the final list of office bearers soon.
After scrutiny, the party will select office bearers on merit, he said. In addition, he noted that the process would prioritise women, youth, and representatives from SC, ST, BC and minority communities, as advised by AICC observers.
