HYDERABAD: In a bid to resolve the growing infighting within the Patancheru unit of the Congress party, members of the Telangana Congress’s two-member committee met with senior leader and TPCC working president Jagga Reddy on Monday. The meeting, held in Hyderabad, was aimed at addressing the internal discord between long-standing and newer party members in the key constituency.
The committee was constituted by the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) specifically to investigate and mediate the ongoing factional strife in Patancheru, located in Sangareddy district. The feud, brewing since the last Assembly elections, has deepened with the shifting loyalties and rivalries between cadres loyal to different leaders.
The panel had earlier met Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha at his residence to gather his views on the situation. According to sources, the Minister suggested that coordination between veteran and newer leaders was crucial for the party’s forward momentum and would prevent further internal conflict.
“We’ve already collected grassroots-level feedback from local cadres. With today’s meeting with Jagga Reddy, our review process is now near completion,” said one of the committee members. Jagga Reddy, being a senior leader from the district, was considered a key voice in understanding the roots and resolution of the dispute.
The political tensions in Patancheru trace back to the 2023 Assembly elections, where Congress candidate Katari Srinivas Goud lost to Mahipal Reddy, who contested on a BRS ticket. However, Mahipal Reddy’s subsequent defection to Congress added fuel to the fire, leading to sharp divisions between supporters of the former and current power centres in the constituency.
With the internal review nearing its conclusion, party sources hinted that the Congress may soon announce a formula to reconcile both factions and restore cohesion ahead of upcoming electoral challenges. The leadership is reportedly keen on preventing further erosion of trust and morale within the district unit.
