Hyderabad: Congress MLA Medipalli Satyam has lashed out at BRS leader and former Gurukuls Secretary RS Praveen Kumar, accusing him of spreading misinformation about the state’s education department and making politically motivated allegations against the Congress government.
Addressing reporters at the CLP media hall on Friday, the Choppadandi legislator questioned Praveen Kumar’s own track record during his eight-year tenure at the helm of the Gurukuls system. “What did he achieve while he was in charge? And why is he in such a hurry to discredit a government that is still in its early days?” Satyam asked.
He argued that the Congress government, despite being less than two years old, has already begun to make decisive interventions in education. In contrast, Satyam said, the previous BRS regime under KCR had left Gurukulas in a state of disarray with institutions running out of rented buildings and no teacher recruitments for a decade.
Satyam pointedly questioned why RS Praveen Kumar, during his time in office, remained silent on key issues like unpaid rent and the absence of staff appointments. “Why didn’t he speak out then? Why raise these issues only now, and that too, with no factual basis?” he asked.
Highlighting the Congress government’s recent initiatives, Satyam said Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has taken direct charge of the education portfolio and is spearheading a comprehensive overhaul. “We’ve already filled 60,000 vacancies a record in itself. Diet and cosmetic allowances for marginalised students have been raised. These are tangible results, not slogans,” he stated.
He also pointed to new schemes including a pilot breakfast programme in the Kodangal constituency and the establishment of integrated residential schools across all constituencies with an allocation of ₹200 crore.
Satyam called on critics to judge the government’s performance based on outcomes, not conjecture. “It’s easy to criticise from the outside, but if RS Praveen Kumar really cared about education, he should have done more when he had the chance,” he said.
