Congress leaders return to BRS as Patancheru politics heats up

Hyderabad: Political equations in the Patancheru Assembly segment changed rapidly ahead of the municipal elections, with several leaders who recently joined the Congress now returning to the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), triggering fresh political debate in the constituency.

Patancheru MLA Gudem Mahipal Reddy had joined the Congress with his supporters after the party came to power in Telangana. However, he later quit the party, stating that he could not adjust there. Although Mahipal Reddy has not officially rejoined the BRS, his brother Madhusudan Reddy has been actively taking part in BRS programmes.

Meanwhile, Mahipal Reddy has been working for the victory of BRS candidates in the municipal elections. His son, Vikram Reddy, has been campaigning directly with BRS candidates. According to party sources, Mahipal Reddy will formally rejoin the BRS after the municipal polls. Even before that move, leaders who shifted to Congress with him have been moving back to the BRS, leading to a series of reverse defections.

Patancheru municipal elections see steady return to BRS

In a major development, former Ameenpur Municipal chairman Panduranga Reddy rejoined the BRS. Along with him, former vice-chairmen Nandaram Narasimha Goud and Prabhakar also returned to the party. Former MPPs Devanandam, Yadagiri Yadav, Venkat Reddy, and Dasharath Reddy joined as well. Additionally, former ZPTC Sudhakar Reddy and former Market Committee chairman Vijay Kumar entered the party. Several other leaders and workers followed suit.

All the leaders joined the BRS in the presence of former minister Harish Rao. Speaking on the occasion, Harish Rao said Patancheru witnessed significant development during the tenure of former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao. He expressed confidence that the BRS would win all five municipalities in the Patancheru segment in the upcoming municipal elections.
