Congress blames BRS for fake news campaign in Jubilee Hills

Hyderabad: The Telangana Congress has accused the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) of running a fake news campaign to defame Congress candidate Naveen Yadav and mislead voters in the Jubilee Hills by-election.

Misinformation aimed at defaming Yadav

Addressing a press conference at Gandhi Bhavan, TPCC spokesperson Syed Nizamuddin said the BRS was deliberately spreading misinformation on social media to undermine Yadav’s growing popularity. He said the false campaign began soon after the Congress announced Yadav’s candidature, which triggered visible enthusiasm among the public.

Nizamuddin alleged that the BRS circulated a doctored video clip showing Yadav making offensive remarks against the Muslim community. The clip was edited to appear like a genuine report from a reputed Telugu daily. “This fake item is completely baseless and malicious. Naveen Yadav has never made such remarks in public or private,” he said.

He added that the BRS had copied the visual design and dateline of the newspaper to make the fake clip look credible. The goal, he claimed, was to provoke communal tension and mislead Muslim voters.

False reports on demolition claims

Nizamuddin also referred to another incident in which a fabricated news item claimed that a company named “Hydra” would demolish houses in Jubilee Hills. The video used the layout of another Telugu newspaper to mislead people. He called this a deliberate attempt to create fear and confusion among residents.

Congress demands police action

“These fake stories are part of a repeated effort by the BRS to derail our campaign in Jubilee Hills,” he said. “Unable to defend its ten-year failures, the BRS has resorted to defamation and misinformation.”

He urged voters not to believe or share unverified content online. “People should check facts before forwarding anything. These are desperate tactics by a party that has lost public trust,” he added.

The Congress will complain to the Cyber Crime Police and seek a full investigation to identify those funding and circulating the fake material. Nizamuddin requested Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar to take suo motu cognisance and register a case.

Congress is confident of victory

Calling the BRS campaign a sign of desperation, Nizamuddin said, “We will continue to campaign on truth and development. Naveen Yadav’s candidature has united the party and gained massive public support. He will win Jubilee Hills with a record majority.”
