Police seize 191 Chinese manja bobbins, arrest two in Rein Bazar

Hyderabad: The Commissioner’s Task Force, South Zone, arrested two men on Wednesday for illegally selling banned glass-coated nylon Chinese manja. This arrest is a major Chinese manja seizure in recent days. Additionally, police seized 191 bobbins worth ₹1.91 lakh in Rein Bazar.

The accused, identified as Hussain Agha, 37, and Syed Saddiq Hussain Jaffery, 35, were caught in the act near Murtuza Chaman, Yakuthpura. Acting on credible information, Task Force officials apprehended the duo in connection with the Chinese manja seizure. They were attempting to sell the prohibited kite-flying thread.

According to investigators, Hussain Agha manages his father’s business and employed Jaffery, a Zomato delivery worker, to assist in distributing the banned material. Furthermore, Agha procured the manja from a supplier named Ramzan, a resident of Mumbai. Ramzan is currently absconding following the Chinese manja seizure.

Police said the accused were selling the manja at ₹1,000 per bobbin in a bid to make illegal profits. This Chinese manja seizure resulted in authorities confiscating all 191 bobbins marked under the brand Mono Gold from the suspects.

The sale and use of Chinese manja has been banned in Telangana since January 2016 under Section 5 of the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986. The law prohibits the procurement, storage, and sale of the dangerous nylon thread. This is due to its severe risk to birds and human safety. Violators face up to five years in prison, a fine of ₹1 lakh, or both.

The arrested individuals and the seized property were handed over to Rein Bazar Police for further legal action. The operation was led by Inspector K. Adi Reddy, assisted by Sub-Inspectors M. Mahesh and S. Seshu, along with the South Zone Task Force team.
