NEW DELHI: The Union government has assured stringent measures against terrorism during an all-party meeting convened to address the aftermath of the recent Pahalgam terror attack. Union Minister Kiran Rijiju disclosed the details of the meeting, where Defence Minister Rajnath Singh briefed political leaders on the attack and subsequent actions taken.
Rijiju stated that the attack was carried out with the intent of disrupting the local environment at a time when Jammu and Kashmir’s economy was recovering and tourism was witnessing growth. He added that representatives from the Intelligence Bureau and the Union Ministry of Home Affairs outlined the security lapses that led to the attack and detailed the corrective steps being implemented to prevent recurrence.
“All parties expressed solidarity with the government in the fight against terrorism,” Rijiju said, underlining the broad consensus that emerged during the meeting.
The high-level meeting was held at the Parliament complex, with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh chairing the session. Before proceedings began, all leaders observed a two-minute silence in honour of the victims of the attack.
Among those present were Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP National President J.P. Nadda, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, and Union Minister Kiran Rijiju. From the Opposition, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, and AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi participated, along with senior representatives from various other parties.
The session highlighted a unified political front in condemning terrorism and reaffirmed the national commitment to safeguarding security and public order in Jammu and Kashmir and across the country.
