BRS walkout from Assembly over Musi debate, MLAs protest at Gun Park

Hyderabad: A BRS walkout disrupted the Telangana Assembly on Friday over the Musi debate. The party said the Speaker denied its MLAs time to speak after Chief Minister Revanth Reddy made remarks on the issue.

Inside the House, BRS members protested the decision. They later walked out, alleging they could not respond to the Chief Minister’s speech. After leaving the Assembly, the MLAs marched on foot to Gun Park.

Near the Martyrs’ Memorial at Gun Park, the legislators staged a dharna. During the protest, they raised slogans such as “Save democracy.” They also questioned whether the Assembly was being run like a CLP meeting and criticised the Speaker’s conduct.

Harish Rao slams CM, alleges one-sided proceedings

Addressing the media, senior BRS leader and former minister Harish Rao accused the Chief Minister of crossing all limits. He said the CM used offensive language on the Assembly floor.

Questioning Revanth Reddy’s behaviour, Harish Rao asked whether he was acting like a Chief Minister or a street rowdy. He alleged that the CM made derogatory remarks against former chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao and silenced the principal opposition.

Explaining the protest, Harish Rao said the BRS staged the walkout to oppose what it called one-sided Assembly functioning. He argued that such conduct weakened democratic values.

He also alleged that the Chief Minister arrived late to the recent Business Advisory Committee meeting. According to him, the government later misrepresented the decisions taken there. Harish Rao further claimed that Revanth Reddy spoke for nearly 90 minutes during Question Hour.

Calling for a fair debate, he suggested a short discussion on the Musi issue. Alternatively, he said the government should allot adequate time on the following day. He added that the BRS would continue to resist any attempt to curb the opposition’s voice.
