BRS stages protest demanding Mallanna Sagar water for Kodakandla farmers

Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi leaders staged a protest Wednesday at the Kondapochamma canal near Kodakandla in Gajwel mandal, demanding the release of Mallanna Sagar water into the Kudevelli Vagu for Vanakalam irrigation.

Led by constituency in-charge Pratap Reddy, the protest targeted the Congress-led state government for allegedly withholding water as a punitive measure against farmers. Addressing the gathering, Reddy accused the Revanth Reddy administration of playing with the livelihoods of cultivators by refusing to release water that was earlier made available under former chief minister K. Chandrashekar Rao.

He warned that if irrigation supply is not restored within three days, the BRS would launch a wider agitation under the leadership of former minister T. Harish Rao. Reddy alleged that paddy growers are left praying for rains, with the government showing no concern for their plight.

The protestors demanded that water be immediately lifted into canals from reservoirs and released into the Kudevelli and Haldi streams. They accused the Congress government of adopting anti-farmer policies and called for urgent action to save crops.

Former AMC chairman Madasu Srinivas and senior leaders Pandari Ravinder Rao were among those who participated in the protest.
