BRS slams police over BNS 109 charge, calls it political vendetta

Hyderabad: Former MLA Balka Suman accused the Jubilee Hills police of misleading the public by invoking BNS Section 109 in a notice issued to Gellu Srinivas Yadav’s wife, calling it equivalent to an attempted murder charge. He said the action was a political retaliation under the Congress government.

Speaking at Telangana Bhavan, Suman alleged that Telangana police were acting as a private army for Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. He defended K. T. Rama Rao’s remarks during a BRS student wing meeting, where KTR had said that police filed an attempted murder case against Srinivas Yadav’s wife. He said the Jubilee Hills SHO’s subsequent clarification failed to counter the facts, as BNS 109 was indeed listed in the notice served to Shweta.

“People must observe the police’s conduct,” Suman said. “There was nothing wrong in what KTR said.”

Charges of misuse and selective targeting

Suman accused the Congress-led administration of unleashing an undeclared emergency under the pretext of “Indiramma governance.” He claimed that the Chief Minister was directing police to book BRS leaders while ignoring complaints filed by the party.

He said multiple BRS workers were killed soon after the new government took office and warned that arbitrary cases were escalating. “Police must change course. If public anger erupts, they won’t be able to contain it,” he said.

He questioned whether police stations and jails would be sufficient if the BRS launched a ‘Jail Bharo’ movement. He demanded equal application of law and criticized the inaction on complaints filed by BRS.

Legal cell and party leaders back stance

Suman was joined by BRS legal cell representatives and leaders including Chirumalla Rakesh Kumar, Palle Ravikumar, and Tungabalu. The party reiterated that the use of BNS 109 was unwarranted and part of a broader political vendetta.
