BRS MLAs protest RTC bus fare hike in Hyderabad, demand rollback

Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLAs staged a protest in Hyderabad on Tuesday against the recent hike in RTC bus fares. The legislators accused the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) of burdening male passengers while keeping travel free for women.

BRS leaders criticise double fare policy, ride bus to protest

Two days ago, the TSRTC increased fares by ₹5 to ₹10. Officials said the hike aimed to raise ₹1 crore in daily revenue. The decision drew sharp criticism from commuters and opposition parties.

Protesters said the move was unfair. They argued that the government offered free travel to women but charged men extra. “This is a biased and illogical policy,” said one legislator.

MLAs Sudheer Reddy, Kaleru Venkatesh, and Mutha Gopal led the protest. They travelled in an RTC bus from Nampally Exhibition Grounds to the Assembly to show their dissent. The leaders demanded that the government roll back the fare hike immediately.
