BRS lodges complaint with Council Chairman over ABN issue

Hyderabad: BRS MLC Takkallapalli Ravinder Rao lodged a formal complaint with the Council Chairman on Tuesday. He sought action over the conduct of an anchor from the ABN Andhra Jyothi news channel.

Earlier in the afternoon, senior BRS leaders met Legislative Council Chairman Gutta Sukhender Reddy at his chamber and submitted a written representation. During the meeting, they alleged that the anchor behaved in an insulting and inappropriate manner during a recent programme aired by the channel.

Moreover, Ravinder Rao informed the Chairman that the anchor’s conduct directly affected his dignity as an elected public representative. He further stated that such behaviour crossed ethical limits and undermined democratic debate.

Accordingly, the Council Chairman received the BRS complaint and assured the delegation that he would examine the matter strictly as per the rules. He also said he would take appropriate action after completing the review.

BRS complaint prompts demand for strict action on ABN

Meanwhile, BRS Legislative Council Whip Deshapati Srinivas, Deputy Floor Leader Pochampally Srinivas Reddy, and MLCs L. Ramana and Naveen Kumar Reddy accompanied Ravinder Rao. They stated that media organisations must show restraint while conducting political discussions.

In addition, the leaders urged the Council Chairman to act firmly against channels that demean public representatives. They said irresponsible debates weaken democratic institutions and public confidence.

Subsequently, the issue drew attention in political and media circles. Party leaders said the episode reflected a broader pattern of misconduct by certain television channels.

Earlier, the BRS strongly condemned the incident. As a result, the party imposed a ban on ABN representatives from covering all BRS programmes. They cited the need to protect the dignity of its elected members.
