Hyderabad: Police detained BRS activists and local residents in Adilabad on Thursday after they staged a sit-in at Jainath mandal centre demanding steps to stop rainwater from entering their homes.
The protest was triggered by severe waterlogging in residential areas following recent rainfall. Residents said rainwater flooded several homes, blaming the problem on a nearby road that was elevated as part of a recent widening project. They claimed the raised road had cut off natural drainage routes, causing the water to back up into their houses.
Frustrated families from the area joined BRS members in a protest, laying siege to the road and demanding that officials step in with urgent preventive measures. Police intervened, removed the protesters from the site, and placed them in a police vehicle.
Tensions escalated when protesters objected to the police action. The detained residents said they were being punished for asking authorities to address a recurring problem that was disrupting their lives.
