BRS unveils 2026 calendar on minority welfare, slams Congress for broken promises

Hyderabad: BRS Working President K. Tarakarama Rao on Thursday launched a 2026 calendar dedicated to minority welfare, using the platform to showcase the party’s governance record and criticise the Congress government for failing to deliver on its promises.

BRS leader Shaik Abdullah Sohail compiled the calendar, which was unveiled at Telangana Bhavan. It features both Gregorian and Hijri dates, along with quotes from BRS President and former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao.

Calendar outlines decade of BRS initiatives for minorities

Designed as a retrospective, the calendar highlights a range of schemes rolled out by the BRS government over the past ten years. These include Shaadi Mubarak, distribution of KCR Kits, and the establishment of minority residential schools under TMREIS. It also covers state-hosted Iftar events and the construction of mosques in the new Secretariat complex.

Furthermore, it lists cultural and institutional projects such as the restoration of Anees-ul-Ghurba, development of Urdu Maskan, and construction of the Jamia Nizamia auditorium. The calendar also showcases the political representation given to the Muslim community. It cites Mahmood Ali’s appointments as the state’s first Muslim Deputy Chief Minister and later Home Minister, as well as nominations of Muslim MLCs and heads of minority-focused bodies.

BRS accuses Congress of neglecting minority pledges

During the event, BRS leaders called the calendar a factual record of inclusive governance. Abdullah Sohail stated that the initiatives reflected genuine empowerment, not symbolic representation. “BRS gave minorities visibility and a voice in public life,” he said.

He criticised the Congress government led by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, accusing it of abandoning its stated commitments. “Not one promise from the Congress Minorities Declaration has been implemented. In two years, less than half of the minority welfare budget has been spent. The Minority Sub-Plan remains blocked, and the ₹1,000 crore loan scheme for youth still hasn’t moved beyond paperwork,” Sohail alleged.

MLC Dr Dasoju Sravan and several senior BRS leaders also attended the event.
