Hyderabad: Bollywood actor Govardhan Asrani passed away on Monday evening at the age of 84, marking a somber moment for the Indian film industry during the festive season.
His family confirmed the death, stating he had been battling health issues for several years. Asrani enjoyed a prolific career spanning over five decades, appearing in more than 350 films.
He earned recognition for his roles as a comedian and supporting actor in Hindi cinema. His performances in classics such as Mere Apne, Koshish, Bawarchi, Parichay, Abhimaan, Chupke Chupke, and Chhoti Si Baat remain iconic.
One of his most memorable roles was as the eccentric police officer in the 1975 blockbuster Sholay.
Several Bollywood celebrities expressed their condolences upon hearing the news, offering prayers for strength to the Asrani family.
