BJP slams Revanth’s proposal to link bank accounts for traffic fines

Hyderabad: Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s proposal to auto-deduct traffic fines from violators’ bank accounts has triggered political backlash and social media outrage. The Telangana BJP has strongly opposed the idea. They cite serious privacy concerns.

BJP state president Ramchandra Rao, speaking to national media, said his party supports traffic law enforcement. However, they reject any move to link citizens’ bank accounts with the RTA system for fine collection. “This method poses a direct threat to financial privacy,” he warned.

Revanth traffic fines proposal draws privacy concerns, BJP calls it Congress hypocrisy

Rao accused the ruling Congress of double standards. He recalled how the party previously opposed the Centre’s ‘Sanchar Saathi’ app citing privacy issues. Yet, now they propose direct access to citizens’ bank accounts.

“Back then, Congress cried foul over data security. Now in power, they’re pushing policies that allow intrusion into private bank accounts. This is blatant hypocrisy,” he said.

The announcement has also drawn widespread criticism from netizens across platforms. Many expressed concern over state access to personal financial data. Political opposition is expected to intensify if the government moves ahead with formal implementation.
